Matthew Barton, Senior Editor, has more than earned his newfound position and title. He was chosen as our Senior Editor, not because of his length of time at The Record, but because of his commitment to journalism and ensuring that information is precise before publishing.
In this pursuit for precision, Matt has sought as much experience as possible in investigative journalism. The string of articles he published about a shooting near Buffalo State’s campus in October has secured him an invite to an investigative journalism conference in Washington D.C. this summer!
Beyond being our Senior Editor, Matt has taken on the role of secretary, in which he takes minutes for our staff meetings (Open to all, every Tuesday and Thursday during Bengal Pause!) and submitting them to USG.
Our group communications go through Discord, and whenever a draft is uploaded to our website ready for editing, 9 times out of 10 Matt will be the first to reply with “I can do it now” or “I’ll edit it later tonight!”
Matt has also taken on editing for our YouTube channel! While co-hosting The LAM sports podcast every Wednesday, he also handles its production behind the scenes. Matt was also instrumental in putting together our “The Women of the Record” interview video for International Women’s Month: he had a specific vision for this project and totally delivered!
All in all, Matt is a very dedicated member of The Record, and his unwavering support for this publication and the staff do not go unnoticed! He is the first to lend a hand, offer constructive criticism on articles, and cover editing duties. We appreciate having Matt around and look forward to all of the continued hard work he has to offer before graduating next Spring!
