Buffalo State softball played another double-header at The Spring Games in Clermont, FL and won the first game against the College at Old Westbury in extra innings but lost the next match to Tufts University.
Buffalo State vs. College at Old Westbury, 2-1 W
Sarah Congelosi hit a walkoff single in the eighth inning to defeat Old Westbury, 2-1.
Pitcher Izzy Pezdek got the win in the circle in her first complete college game and allowed five hits. Congelosi and Lexi Quagliana each had a stolen base and a run-batted-in for the Bengals.
Mya Hurley, who got on base with a single, scored first for Buffalo State after a sacrifice fly from Quagliana to lead 1-0 before the Panthers scored in the top of the third inning to tie the game up at one-run each.
The innings were short as neither team’s offense was producing anything and remained tied until the eighth inning. Sydney Shuta was on third base when Congelosi hit the single as Shuta started the inning at second base, per international tiebreaker rules. Kenzie Scott had a sacrifice bunt to push Shuta over before she scored the game-winning run.
Buffalo State vs. Tufts University, 12-6 L
After scoring six runs in the first inning, Buffalo State’s offense fell off and the softball team lost, 12-6, to Tufts University.
Congelosi was 1-of-3 at the plate with a run and a walk while Quagliana was 2-of-4 with a run and two RBIs, and Scott also had two RBIs.
Congelosi was walked and Deme Kellogg reached first base on an error before advancing to second and pushing Congelosi to third. Pezdek had a sacrifice fly to bring home one runner before Kellogg scored an unearned run.
Quagliana doubled with bases loaded to score two runners and Scott hit a single to score another couple and lead 6-0.
Tufts answered with a crooked number as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and then three runs in the second to trail 6-5. The Bengals left three runners on base in the third inning and then Tufts scored two more runs to take a 7-5 advantage in the bottom of the fourth.
The Elephants rallied in the sixth to score five runs and the Bengals lost 12-6.
Buffalo State pitcher Madison Lucas walked four opponents, allowed 13 hits and had two strikeouts.
The Bengals return to the diamond on Thursday for another double-header, this time against Union College and then Clarkson University again. First pitch is set for 9am and 11:30am, respectively.
