Men’s and women’s soccer to host home playoff games

Staff Reports

The men’s and women’s soccer teams have ended the season strong and earned a home playoff game for SUNYAC championships.

The women’s team (14-1-2), D-III No. 19 ranked, swept conference play going 9-0 and went 2-0 this past weekend. On Oct. 21, the Bengals avenged last season’s SUNYAC championship loss. The 1-0 win took 92 minutes until freshman Sophia Perrothers hit the back of the net.

The next day, the team hosted New Paltz and started another shutout streak with a 2-0 win. Melisa Smith and Tiana Hatch got the team’s two goals in a dominate performance. The team didn’t allow a single shot on net and only one total shot towards the goalie.

Women’s soccer will host the winner of fourth seeded Plattsburgh and fifth seeded Oswego on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at Coyer Field. The team earned a bye this weekend for the SUNYAC quarterfinal play.

The men’s soccer team (10-6-1/ 5-4) stumbled on its route to SUNYAC playoffs. The team lost both games, 1-3 against Oneonta and 0-1 to New Paltz. The lack of scoring hasn’t been an outlier this season. In SUNYAC play, the Bengals have not scored over two goals. Sophomore August Finn scored the lone goal of the weekend.

The men’s team will rematch New Paltz in SUNYAC quarterfinal play in its first ever home playoff game for the program. The game will be Oct. 29 starting at 3 p.m.
