Buffalo State student dies in car accident early Saturday morning

Buffalo State student Eddie Hernandez died early Saturday morning following a car accident.

Buffalo State senior Eddie Hernandez, 21, died early Saturday morning following a tragic car accident, a college official tells The Record. Buffalo State president Katherine Conway-Turner confirmed the news to students shortly after.

Hernandez, a Bronx, New York native, was a senior criminal justice major scheduled to graduate in May. He was named to the dean’s list multiple times during his time at Buffalo State. Hernandez was a member of the college’s Educational Opportunity Program and Adelante Estudiantes Latinos.

Buffalo State president Katherine Conway-Turner issued a statement to students via e-mail.

“On behalf of the entire Buffalo State community, I express my heartfelt condolences to the Hernandez family and Eddie’s beloved friends. Our hearts ache for you during this difficult time,” Conway-Turner wrote.

Conway-Turner also said that the campus Counseling Center is available to talk with students, faculty, and staff  “as we grieve the loss of another member of our Buffalo State family.” The Counseling Center can be reached by phone at (716) 878-4436.
