Women’s Track and Field claims SUNYAC title

Staff Reports

The Buffalo State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams traveled to SUNY Brockport this weekend to compete in the SUNYAC championships. The women finished the weekend in first place and were named SUNYAC champions for the fourth time. The men finished six out of eight teams.

Senior Jazmin Dunham was the top individual point scorer at the entire meet, as she and junior Sasa Vann each won individual titles for the women. Dunham finished first in the 60-meter hurdles, while Vann defended her title in the 400-meter dash. They performed well in the sprint events as a team, which helped boost the Lady Bengals to the first place finish.

Senior Jazlyn Porter earned second team All-SUNYAC honors, as she placed in second behind Vann in the 400-meter dash. She also finished third in the triple jump and 200-meter dash.

Juniors Austin Becker and Josiah Thomas each won individual titles for the men. Becker finished first in the 800-meter run, the same event he was crowned champion of during last year’s outdoor season. Thomas captured his title in the triple jump.

Head coach Eugene Lewis was also named SUNYAC track and field coach of the year.

The teams will now head to the ECAC Championships at the Armory in New York City this Saturday.
