Tuition to rise $300 for 2015-16 school year

Staff Reports

Tuition for in-state State University of New York undergraduate students across New York, including SUNY Buffalo State, is about to go up another $300 — bringing it to $6,470 for the 2015-16 school year.

SUNY trustees voted for the measure to hike tuition rates earlier this month, as they have every year since Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the SUNY 2020 program into legislation in 2011.

When SUNY’s “rational tuition” program went into effect, tuition at Buffalo State was $4,970. The tuition plan was touted as a way to prepare students and parents for the rising costs of higher education by increasing tuition at a flat rate every year.

According to CollegeBoard.org, average tuition and fees at public four-year colleges increased by 19 percent from 2003-04 to 2008-09, and by another 27 percent from 2008-09 to 2013-14, adjusted for inflation.
