When thinking of Thanksgiving, we picture a long table with countless dishes, as the robust smell of turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing floats in the air.
While this yearly tradition is a tasty one, not everyone is fortunate enough to indulge in this bountiful feast. According to Milligan’s Food Pantry, Buffalo State University’s own, one in five students experience food insecurity.
This Thanksgiving season, The Record is proud to announce the first annual “Thanksgiving Food Drive” to benefit Milligan’s Food Pantry and the Buffalo State Community.
Starting Nov. 14, we will be collecting food in a donation box outside of our office. It is located in the Buckham Hall B-wing directly across from Buckham B141.
Milligan’s is in need of many items, including but not limited to:
- Non-perishable foods (canned food, cereal, spaghetti, rice, peanut butter, etc.)
- Foods supporting dietary accommodations (gluten-free, lactose-free and nut-free)
- Snacks (raisins, pretzels, popcorn, jerky, etc.)
This is just a small list of possible donations. If it has a long shelf life, donate it!
The drive ends on Nov. 25 at 12 p.m., right before we bring the food to Milligan’s. Stick around if you would like to help bring it over with us.
The goal is to create a lasting tradition on campus for years to come, but that can only be done with your help. Please consider donating and spreading the word.
Happy Thanksgiving, let’s all help by giving back to our mini community here at Buffalo State.
