Each fall, the senior class of the Television and Film Arts (TFA) program creates a TV pilot from the ground up, with students filling in the real world positions of Creator, Writer, Director, Editor, Director of Photography, etc., while giving their peers the opportunity to gain experience on set in the role of their choosing.
“In this y2k coming-of-age story, a closeted teen finds love and sisterhood in an underground all-girls bowling team after being sent to a conservative town to suppress her rebellious nature,” reads the logline of this year’s pilot “Spares,” which is believed to be one of the most ambitious projects to come out of the program, with a desired budget of $12,500.
Created by Ashley Matter, who will serve as the Executive Producer, the team consists of Collin Bostock as Director, Julia Eason as Production and Costume Designer, Head Writer Marissa Wenzel, Director of Photography Matthew Green, Melody Mendoza who will serve as both a Writer and Hair and Makeup Artist, 2nd Assistant Director and Marketing Writer Elisha Martin, Head Editor Rhea Rose, Marketing Director and Assistant Editor Nathan Koss and Hopeton Scott as Gaffer and Marketing DP.
The previous TFA pilot “Be Happy” was selected for the Buffalo International Film Festival, in addition to its premier at the Warren Enters Theater, giving the creative endeavors of aspiring filmmakers a chance to be viewed by a wider audience while allowing them to reap the successes of their hard work. This year’s pilot will be in production during the week of Nov. 10th, with a premier screening in the Warren Enters Theater on Dec. 6th at 7 p.m.
