More than 30 students and staff members at Buffalo State University showed their compassion and thoughtfulness during Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Month at Take Back the Night on April 17.

The program, held at the Science and Math Complex Atrium, brought the community together to recognize the hardships many people face when dealing with sexual assault.

The event was coordinated by Candance Williams, the Title IX Coordinator under the Equity and Diversity Office, in collaboration with Crisis Services, the District Attorneys’ Office, and the Buffalo State Police Department.

Emotions were high as participants listened to heartfelt poem readings from students Alana Jacowitz, Gabrielle Williams and Tayllor Clark, and moving performances by Yaileen Kren-Colon playing original music on her guitar.

The event ended with a candlelight vigil and a moment of silence for survivors of sexual assault.

BSU acknowledges the importance of providing support to victims and preventing as many incidents as possible. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual violence, the following resources are available:

Weigel Counseling Center
National Sexual Assault Hotline

The Title IX office is also available via email at [email protected].
