The Bengals (7-6) opened up conference play on Sunday afternoon and defeated Brockport in back-to-back games in Buffalo. The games were originally set for Friday, but were rescheduled due to weather.
Game 1, W 2-1
Izzy Pezdek (4-1) won in the circle with eight strikeouts, five walks, five hits allowed, and one earned run.
Grace Albano had one hit, scored a run, and walked twice. Sarah Congelosi, Deme Kellogg and Albano had a stolen base.
Congelosi walked to start the first inning before she stole second base, and then scored after Caitlyn Parsons hit a single up the middle.
Albano walked in the top of the third inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Congelosi. Albano scored on a groundout from Kenzie Scott.
Brockport placed runners on base in the bottom of the third to trail 2-1, which proved to be the final score of game one.
Game 2, W 9-1
Buffalo State pulled off its second win against the Golden Eagles in five innings, enforcing the mercy rule with an eight-run advantage.
Congelosi was 2-for-2 at the plate with two walks, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Mya Hurley was 3-of-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Parsons was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Congelosi roped a triple to start the game and then Hurley hit a single to drive in the run. Hurley scored a double from Madison Lucas, who scored when Kellogg reached first on an error by the shortstop. Lexi Quagliana scored an unearned run, and the Bengals led 5-0 after one inning.
Hurley and Congelosi, who got on base with a double and bunt, both scored on a single from Parsons to lead 7-0.
Brockport scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth; however, Buff State responded with a score on a wild pitch to win 9-1 in five innings. The mercy rule states: if a team leads by eight or more runs after five innings, the game is over.
The Bengals had 12 hits and eight RBIs, whereas Brockport had one hit.
Buffalo State returns home on Tuesday for a double-header against St. John Fisher University. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
