SUNY Buffalo State is host to a diverse population with unique perspectives, but the political views remain predominantly liberal. So, it may come as a surprise to some that the campus’ radio station, 91.3 FM WBNY, is home to a conservative perspective.

“The Philip Ward Show” is a talk show that’s focused on providing a conservative analysis on the political issues of the day.

According to host Philip Ward, the show is, “all about common sense and rational thinking and free-market, capitalistic solutions.”

Ward, who is a lifelong and unwavering Conservative, considers his show to be a place where conservative values can find their voice.

The topics on the show include current politics, COVID rules and restrictions and criticizes the mainstream media, which he stated is a driving force in the political polarization of the United States.

Ward said that he reads sources with a variety of political perspectives, but his most trusted news outlets are The New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, Fox News and Breitbart News—sources that are biased in favor of the political right.

On the show, Ward encourages people to do their own research.

“I always encourage people to do their own research,” Ward said. “I say ‘don’t take my word for it,’ I say ‘don’t take Philip Ward’s word’.”

Additionally, Ward claims he loves to talk to people whose views are different than his own.

“I love talking to Liberals. Do I agree with them? Absolutely not,” Ward said. “At the end of the day, we’re all Americans. You know, if we could find agreement somewhere, that’s a beautiful thing, man.”

Ward’s chief influence for this show is the late Rush Limbaugh, who Ward refers to as the “king of talk radio.” That isn’t to say that The Philip Ward Show is a carbon-copy of Limbaugh.

“Rush influences me, but The Philip Ward Show is its own independent entity,” he said.

“The Philip Ward Show” airs live, Monday through Friday at 8-9 p.m. on 91.3 FM WBNY.
