A crowd of at least 40 to 80 students gathered in the Campell Student Union Wednesday night for SUNY Buffalo State’s annual Lip Sync Battle, the event was apart of this week’s homecoming activities.

The atmosphere was emphatic and lively, all the students were dancing and singing along to the music that was being played. There were about five to 10 participants in the competition, but the main competitors were some of the organizations on campus.

NAACP which danced to a mashup mix of Notorious B.I.G, 50 Cent, Fabolous, Pop Smoke, Cardi B, A Boogie, Little TJ, Nicki Minaj, and Little Teccawon won the competition.

Ty, who is the vice president of the organization said that it felt refreshing to win first place, he felt that he and his team deserved the win after putting in endless hours of practice for their performance.

One of the judges, Nick, who won the Lip Sync Battle when he was a student Buffalo State said while judging the performances he was specifically looking for creativity, fluidity, and flare and he saw that in NAACP.

Zen Model Boot Camp got second place. Afterward Zen members Lay and Derric said they felt that they were robbed from the title of being first place winners, but were still pleased with the outcome. They had performed to a mashup mix of the Black Eyed Peas, Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars, and DJ Kool.

The Pan-African Students Organization earned third place. Deandra, a member of the organization, said that she felt great after the third place win and that she was blessed.

Those groups received trophies and the runners-up received a t-shirt or a ticket to a party/concert as a consolation prize.

Attendees could tell each group had their own style by the way they choreographed their performance and added flavor to make sure that they could wow the judges.

At the end of the night, everyone was still dancing and it appeared the 2019 Lip Sync Battle had been a success.
