Winter: If you can’t beat it, join it.

Since we’re not exactly getting that early spring that was promised to us on Groundhog Day, why not take advantage of fun winter festivities going on around the city?

One such event is the Neighborhood Party in MLK Park on March 10, from 3 p.m to 5 p.m. This event is free fun for the whole family, with a live DJ and hot chocolate and s’mores to keep you warm.

The best part? The party will also open up a dialogue for locals and visitors alike to weigh in on how to make winter better in Buffalo.

This event is part of a larger initiative courtesy of 8 80 Cities, an organization dedicated to building communities and improving quality of life for citizens of cities across the nation.

8 80 Cities has come up with Wintermission, a two-year program designed to “combat social isolation and increase levels of physical activity in winter for all residents, no matter their age, ability, socio-economic, or ethnocultural backgrounds.” Buffalo was one of three cities selected to participate in the Wintermission program, and events like the Neighborhood Party in MLK Park are designed to get residents together to actively discuss and participate in community gatherings during the winter season.

So why stay snowed in? Head over to MLK park tomorrow and keep an eye out for more upcoming Wintermission Buffalo events!
