Brockport manhandles Football; 65-7
October 22, 2018
From the opening kickoff it was obvious that the No. 3 nationally-ranked SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles were not going to let an upset happen on their home field Saturday afternoon.
Buffalo State’s defense had a hard time stopping the dynamic running and passing attack of the Golden Eagles, who went off with 608 total yards from scrimmage going on to dominate the SUNY Buffalo State Football team 65-7 in Empire 8 conference action.
The first score of the game came about halfway through the first quarter when Brockport quarterback Joe Germinerio found Tyree Brown for a nine-yard strike, which capped of a 14-play, 99-yard drive.
The floodgates really opened in the second quarter when the Golden Eagles put up 30 points in the quarter, making the score 44-0 at halftime.
The second half didn’t get much better for the Bengals. Quarterback Kevin Torrillo did find Jamar Rutledge on 70-yard pass play for Buff State’s lone score, but it was far too little far too late.
Big plays came early and often for the Golden Eagles and Buffalo State just had no answers.
The Bengals also struggled to move the ball, racking up only 163 yards of total offense.
Torrillo ended his day with 198 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Brockport’s Germinerio had 233 yards through the air with three touchdowns and one interception.
The Bengals (1-6, 1-3 Empire 8) are hoping to put an end to their current three-game losing streak this week as they host the Morrisville State Mustangs on Saturday at noon.
