Mergler smashes records at Champs

Conner Mergler had a historic day at the SUNYAC Championship meet the Flickinger Aquatic Center on the campus of Erie Community College this past Saturday.

The sophomore swimmer won three events in the 50, 100 and 200-meter freestyle. He broke school records in each event, posting a 44.74 preliminary time in the 100-meter freestyle.

His times in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle set conference records. All three event times qualified for NCAA B-cut’s.

Later in the evening, he posted a time of 44.89 to repeat as the SUNYAC conference champion.

Together, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams broke nine school records, including Mergler’s three events, the 400-meter freestyle relay and 200 fly.

Mergler will wait for the NCAA to announce if he has qualified for the D-III Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. on March 16-19.
