Directed and choreographed by Carlos Jones, SUNY Buffalo State’s theater program is performing an adaptation of “Footloose” for its fall musical. Tonight, Nov. 13,  is opening night at 8 p.m. The cast is excited to bring the musical to the stage at Warren Enters Theatre in Upton Hall.

The 1984 movie, starring Kevin Bacon, was recently adapted to a modern film starring Julianne Hough in 2011. The musical was first brought to the stage in 1998.

When Chicago native Ren McCormack moves to a small farming town, unprepared for its strict rules. His biggest surprise comes when he finds out that the local preacher has banned dancing and rock and roll. McCormick’s story of adaptation comes with classic teenage rebellion. This fast-paced, dance filled drama follows his story and the stories of the town’s teens, and how they find courage and community within each other.

See what the cast of Buffalo State’s “Footloose” had to say as seniors experiencing their last performance, freshman being part of such a large cast, character development, and those that did not have an extensive dancing background before the production.
