Buffalo State Men’s Hockey Head Coach Steve Murphy is inching towards history in the SUNYAC record books.
Murphy is currently in his 10th season as the team’s Head Coach, after he was hired back in 2013, spending his first two seasons as an assistant under former Bengal’s head coach Nick Carriere.
Murphy took the reins as interim coach in the summer of 2015 when Nick Carriere left Buffalo State for an assistant coaching position with the St. John Ice Caps of the American Hockey League.
During his interim season, Murphy guided the Bengals to a school-record for wins in a single season with an overall record of 15-7-4. Buffalo State also finished 11-4-1 in SUNYAC play and posted its highest finish in the conference standings in team history after placing second.
Ever since Murphy has taken the reigns as the full-time head coach, he has posted a record of 107-92-14, which currently puts him just two games behind Nick Carriere for the all-time record for most wins by a coach in program history at 109 wins.
Murphy has a chance to tie the record this weekend with two wins over Trine University, which will edge him closer to standing alone atop the programs all-time wins list.
