I know I would just terribly crumble without you
It’s October 12th and you’re putting up Halloween decorations like you do every year
You like to make your house inviting, as you you’d let any stranger walk in
You spent all year planning planting those ripe tomatoes
I’m sure you wouldn’t want birds eating them so you took me out
You saw me on that shelf and thought I was worthy enough
Thought I was frightening enough to scare those black crows away
You even gave me a little hat, which barely fit me so you sew it onto me
Perfectly
I instantly added flavor to your old home and took care of your tomato issue
Two birds one stone
I knew if you left me there, didn’t adjust me from time to time
I really would crumble
The hay would start to fall off my body
My candy corn nose would be eaten
And the birds would know, I’m not real
The snow would come and your tomatoes would go inside
And you’d throw me out as December snuck up on us
But you didn’t
You put me in your attic, cold but good enough
What matters is you kept me
