The Bills traveled across the pond to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in London and lost by a final score of 25-20.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen had an impressive game, throwing for 359 yards, two touchdown passes, and even running for a touchdown.
However, the coveted rushing game that so many were talking about was not on display this weekend, as they ran for just 29 yards.
Also, a Bills offense that had only punted the ball four times all season to this point was forced to punt six times in the loss.
As for the Bills’ defense, they played well for three quarters despite many injuries to key players. These injuries included Kingsley Jonathan, Taron Johnson, DaQuan Jones, and most importantly, Matt Milano, who was carted off the field after a season-ending knee injury.
All of this is without mentioning the loss of Greg Rousseau before the game. However, Von Miller was back in action, despite being on a “pitch count” according to head coach Sean McDermott.
The Bills defense did play well for the first three quarters, only allowing 11 points. However, the floodgates opened in the fourth quarter, as the Bills’ defense would give up 14 points in the quarter alone.
Despite giving up little points, they did give up a lot of yards to the Jaguars offense. The Jaguars’ offense had 471 yards, 275 coming through the air and 196 coming via the ground game.
Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw 37 passes for 315 yards and a touchdown on the day.
As for running back Travis Etienne, he accumulated 126 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.
Despite this dominance from the Jaguars, the Bills kept the game close, trailing 11-7 entering the fourth quarter.
The Bills defense would start the quarter by giving up a touchdown run to Etienne as the Jaguars increased their lead to 18-7. The dominance would continue, as the Jaguars’ defense would force another stop, putting the Bills in a bad spot with the game nearing its end.
Despite this, the Bills defense would force a stop and get the ball back to the offense, which looked to mount a comeback.
Quarterback Josh Allen would lead the Bills offense down the field in quick succession and cap the drive off with a touchdown pass to Gabe Davis. However, the two-point try would fail as young receiver Khalil Shakir couldn’t break the plain.
This would bring the Bills within five points as they now trailed 18-13. However, this would be short-lived as the Bills defense would quickly give up another touchdown to Travis Etienne and after the extra point, now trailed 25-13 with just under three and a half minutes to play.
Again, quarterback Josh Allen would lead the Bills down the field on an impressive drive that was capped off by a Josh Allen touchdown run as the Bills again trailed by five, this time 25-20.
Despite their best efforts, the Bills didn’t recover the onside kick. The Jaguars took the clock down to 22 seconds left before giving the Bills one last chance to drive the field from inside their 10-yard line.
However, the Bills couldn’t create some last-second magic in London and fell to the Jaguars 25-20 in week five.
After this loss, the Bills fall to 3-2 on the season and look ahead to their week six matchup with the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.
