Society of Professional Journalists seeks scholarship applicants

Are you a communication student or a professional journalist interested in continuing your education for the 2023-2024 academic year? You may be eligible for a Journalism Scholarship through the Society of Professional Journalists Buffalo Chapter!

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify:

-Must be a resident of Western NY, Northwestern PA, or Southern Ontario (or if residing outside of these areas, must be attending college in WNY)
-Must attend an accredited college in the US or Canada that offers courses to enhance journalism training
-Must provide a letter of recommendation from an instructor or supervisor in your field of major interest
-Must include a brief statement demonstrating motivation and a commitment to a career in journalism
-Evidence of competence in writing, broadcasting or related communications skills, as well as an explanation of financial need, is preferred

Since 1978, Nearly $140,000 in scholarships has been awarded to more than 155 individuals.

“Dozens of these recipients have since forged successful careers in the communication industry,” said Scholarship Fund Chair Brian Meyer.
