Cheektowaga pizzeria doesn’t budge on wing prices

The prices of pizza and wings have taken an astronomical jump recently.

The times of reasonably priced pizza pies and chicken wings seem to be long gone. It’s a real task now to find a pizzeria that makes their food affordable for families.

However, one establishment in Cheektowaga has yet to increase their wing prices like other competing pizzerias have.

Gandy’s Pizzeria has been serving up pizza, wings and various other pasta dishes since 1993. Located on Cleveland Drive in Cheektowaga, NY, Gandy’s has served as a reliable pizza place for many folks in Western New York.

One thing that makes Gandy’s unique as opposed to other pizzerias is their prices. Looking at other popular pizzerias and their prices, it’s easy to be discouraged to buy a pizza and a side of wings for a family.

Popular pizzerias in Buffalo such as Picasso’s Pizza and Imperial Pizza have raised their prices to the point where it may be unaffordable for many families to even order from them.

The price for a sheet pizza and 50 wings from these pizza places? On average, this order will cost people around $95.

Looking at Gandy’s prices is much different. When ordering the same package of a sheet pizza and 50 wings, Gandy’s only charges $55.

Why is the price so low?

Is it the quality of the wings?

Are the wings cooked with a cheaper, less expensive oil? Well, it’s none of the above.

Lisa is the owner of Gandy’s Pizzeria. She explains that the reason her prices are so low is not a competitive tactic against other pizzerias, but rather a gesture to save families some money.

“I believe that eating pizza and wings should be affordable for everybody. Nowadays, prices for eating out are out of control. I just can’t charge people some of the prices that are out there,” Lisa said.

Like any other pizza connoisseur, Lisa watches and observes the prices that other pizzerias have placed on pizza and wings.

“These prices for pizza and wings are in the 90s now. We’re lucky prices haven’t exceeded $100 for a sheet and wings,” Lisa said.

So what has caused the prices of pizza and wings to rise so dramatically?

According to an article by Business Insider, there are a couple reasons that explain the massive price jumps. One reason is that ingredients for the food have gone up in price, resulting in business owners having to jack the price of their product up.

Anthony D’Aniello is the owner of Manville Pizza in New Jersey. He explains that because ingredient cost has gone up, the customer unfortunately will see the cost of the product go up as well.

“It’s inevitable that the higher cost of ingredients will be passed onto the customer,” D’Aniello said.

Another article from Business Insider states that another reason prices have gone up is the lack of employees on chicken wing farms.

“The chicken wing farms in America, they’re having trouble retaining and recruiting employees,” said Greg Duell, who is the co-owner of Duff’s Famous Wings in Buffalo, NY.

Duell also adds that because of this, the process of shipping out the chicken meat is slowed down.

“When that happens, they can’t process the birds fast enough, they have to feed them more, the feed costs have gone up, the birds are getting bigger and they can’t process and get them out,” Duell said.

Despite keeping prices lower than competitors, Lisa still believes that Gandy’s will be just fine financially.

“I think we do our customers a good service by keeping our prices reasonable. Hopefully they’ll continue to show our shop more and more support,” Lisa said.

The prices of pizza and wings are at an all-time high. Yet Gandy’s stands strong against wing and pizza inflation. Folks can learn more about Gandy’s prices and deals by visiting their website at Gandyspizza.com .
