The SUNY Buffalo State Softball team’s 2018 campaign came to end with a pair of losses at the SUNYAC Championships at SUNY Geneseo Thursday.

After winning just one of their last six games to close out the regular season the Bengals got the sixth seed in the playoffs and drew the top-seeded Geneseo Knights to start the tournament.

Buffalo State took a lead in the top of the second as Melissa Woods hit an RBI-single, but a four-run third inning for the Knights carried them to a 5-2 victory.

Nicole Adams was one-for-two from the plate and threw three 1/3 innings in relief giving up no hits.

The loss put the Bengals in an elimination game with No. 5 SUNY Plattsburgh later in the afternoon.

Buffalo State took a two-run lead in the top of the third but eventually fell 5-4 in extra innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Plattsburgh took a 4-3 lead with a pair of runs.

The Bengals forced extra innings as Justine Silva got on base with a single and then came home after another Plattsburgh error, but the Cardinals won it in the eighth when Jennifer Sarcone scored on a sacrifice fly.

Silva was two-for-three from the plate in her final game as a Bengal. Adams pitched a complete game giving up four earned runs.

Buffalo State ends the season with an overall record of 11-20 in coach Jamie Brown’s first season. The team graduates five seniors.
