The SUNY Buffalo State Cheerleading team will be traveling to Daytona, Florida next month to compete in the 3-day long National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) collegiate championship, which is one of the largest competitions in the country.

The cheer team earned their bid to the NCA Championship by attending a cheer camp in October where the team showed their acquired skillsets. This year, the cheerleaders earned a bronze bid allowing them to return to Daytona for the second year in a row. Last year, the college placed in the top 5 out of 13 teams.

“The sport of cheerleading has grown immensely in the past 10 years,” Cheerleading coach Stephanie Schroeder says, “…and being able to show that Buffalo State is a true contender means so much to me and my athletes, as well as the college.”

This Friday the cheer team will team up with Venu, a nightclub located on the Chippewa Strip in downtown Buffalo to raise money for their trip to Daytona.
