Homecoming didn’t turn out the way Bengals fans wanted it to Saturday afternoon as the Brockport Golden Eagles flew away with a 33-0 victory to keep the I-90 bowl trophy for another year.

Joe Germinerio and the Golden Eagle offense drove the ball down field through the air, and on the ground, bringing the ball to midfield. Tyree Brown snagged a 22-yard pass, bringing Brockport into scoring position. Brett Renzi kicked a 25-yard field goal to put the Golden Eagles on the board first.

Hoppy was pressured in the pocket leading to an interception by Julius Brunson. The Golden Eagles took advantage of favorable field position with a 7-yard passing touchdown to Jerry Thompson, giving Brockport a 10 point lead.

The turnover troubles continued for the Bengals. Matt Szymanski forced a fumble which was recovered by Alex West at the Bengals 19-yard line.

“If you can’t be effective running the ball, then it really affects your passing game,” Bengals head coach Jerry Boyes said.

Germinerio took matters into his own hands finding pay dirt on a 14-yard run putting the Golden Eagles up by 17.

Brockport didn’t let up in the dying minutes of the second half. Stout defense forced the Bengals to punt which lead to a 77-yard completion to DaQuan Hubbard for a Golden Eagles touchdown, giving them a 24-0 lead at half.

Buffalo State continued to sink the boat in the second half. Hoppy was sacked for a team safety by Brockport, padding the score 26-0.

The Golden Eagles took advantage of favorable field positon from the safety. Germinerio completed a 14 yard pass to Hollister. Brockport fed their backfield the ball, which lead to a 5-yard pass in the end zone to Hubbard for the game’s final score.

Buffalo State didn’t record any sacks, compared to the Golden Eagles who earned 6 sacks for the day.

Hoppy went 5 for 12 for 76 yards and 2 interceptions. Germinerio went 18 for 26 for 226 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

“We need to execute in all 3 phases of the game to make things happen. What happened today is we didn’t have an offense to light a match too or get excited about. We will look at it tomorrow, make changes and hopefully fix it next week,” Boyes explained.

Buffalo State will head to Oneonta to take on the 3-5 Hartwick Hawks in the Bengals’ final road of game of the season. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
