Letter to the Editor: Buffalo State celebrates #GivingTuesday

Buffalo State College will be participating in #GivingTuesday on Nov. 29, 2016. #GivingTuesday is not just a day, but a global social media campaign driven by collaboration, participation and celebration of giving back. Observed the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season.

Last year more than 1,100 students, faculty and staff and 20 student organizations participated in #GivingTuesday at Buffalo State. This year, the goal is to get even more participants and to encourage the entire Buffalo State community to give back. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving all around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours and activities that bring about real change in the world. It is an international movement of which our campus continues to be a proud participant.

The Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) will be working with student individuals and organizations across campus to encourage their participation. There are many ways students can get involved. Student organizations can register to reserve a table in the Campbell Student Union during Bengal Pause that day. Students, faculty and staff can also stop by the SPC’s table during Bengal Pause to take an “Unselfie,” and post pictures of their volunteer service using the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #UnleashtheBengal.
