Kanye West’s new sneakers are not worth the hype

Dion Price, Reporter

Kanye West is one of the most innovative and creative people on the planet. He has given us many classic albums, and his sound constantly evolves as the years go on. Another area that he excels in is fashion.

If you look around today, I’m pretty sure you will see a lot of kids who are dressed like West did at some point in his career.

His style and artistry is imitated and admired by almost everyone. It’s this reason why I don’t think he is being fair to his fans with the recent release of his new Adidas Yeezy Boost 350.

A few days before this past weekend, it was announced that his popular sneaker would be coming out in a new colorway. The Internet went crazy with the news, and everyone was informed that certain stores would be getting limited amounts on their websites.

The problem with West’s sneaker releases is that the small amount of shoes available online are almost always taken by resellers. These computer bots buy up all the shoes so they can sell them on eBay for $1,000. West knows that the whole world wants his sneaker, and yet he only puts a small amount out. This makes it almost impossible for the average fan to get a pair.

This is the fourth release of his sneakers and still most of his fans have not even come close to getting any. This wouldn’t be a problem if West never went on all of his rants about making products for everyone, and how he wants his brand to be available to normal people.

It is understandable that he does not have complete control over how Adidas does certain things, but it doesn’t seem like he is trying to make his releases better. In fact it feels like the releases are getting more difficult for anyone to obtain. This gives off a “you’re not good enough to wear my sneakers” vibe, and after reading people’s comments on Twitter throughout the weekend it seems like most people are upset that once again they did not have any chance at all in getting their favorite artist’s latest product.

What people should start to realize is that if West doesn’t care enough to make a decent amount of sneakers available, then we as consumers should not support and hype up a product that in reality is only desired because of the “Kanye West” name on it.

As a huge West fan I can only hope that he starts to make the releases more frequent and with larger amounts so everyone can be able to get a shot at getting a pair. If he really wants to be the next Walt Disney or Steve Jobs, then he has to have his product available in large amounts and also be easier for people to obtain.
